World Health Organization Health Emergencies Programme - Advisory on infodemic management

Our mission at Ripple Research has always been to leverage our capabilities to design solutions to some of the most pressing global challenges, especially in matters related to public health. Members of our team are advising the WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme (HEP) in Europe to help member states better manage health emergency risks and responses related to disease and viral outbreaks in the area of Infodemic Management.

A key component of managing events such as the outbreak of COVID-19, the spread of monkeypox, as well as the war in Ukraine, is effective infodemic management to ensure relief and recovery is allocated to vulnerable communities and those that need it most.

Infodemic management works to ensure that accurate, verified information is accessible. It simultaneously seeks to monitor platforms, collaborate with fact-checkers and build infrastructure to curb the spread of misinformation that could limit public health efforts, such as false information about vaccination schemes.

Members of our team are contributing to these efforts with the WHO HEP and its wider stakeholder network to collect and analyse data to inform recommendations related to infodemic management. The intersection of digital health and behavioural insights explored in our previous research has made Ripple Research a well-placed partner.

We are also working to provide on-the-ground training and a blueprint for WHO country-level offices and public health agencies on infodemic management to better serve and educate national health authorities, civil society organisations and fact-checkers on this critical issue.
